In my opinion, it is quite acceptable when the driver insist on using their smartphones or navigation apps to help them while driving. Because, why bother yourself with asking strangers on the side of the road when you have navigation apps to help you? Technology exist, why don't we use it? Using navigation apps are far more simpler and easier than asking other people for directions. Unfortunately, many people these days aren't using it wisely. The smartphones sometimes distracts them, instead of helping them driving. Of course the police aren't wrong when they ticketed the drivers who violated the rules. They're against it in order to prevent accidents, it is their job. The drivers should find a way to use their smartphones and navigation apps wisely, so it'll be a great help and won't distracts them while driving.
